Marawi City, 6 Jan 2020- As part of the ongoing assistance of the Department of Science and Technology XII (DOST 12) to Marawi City after the the 2017 Marawi-Siege, DOST 12 OIC-Office of the Regional Director Engr. Mahmud L. Kingking forged partnership with the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Main Campus, Marawi City thru the leadership of President Habib W. Macaayong for the establishment of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Center in the Campus.
OIC Engr. Kingking highlighted the vital role of the University, as center for academic excellence in northern part of Mindanao, for sustainable development of Marawi City.
“MSU has the capability and know-how for research and development and is the best partner to house the STI Center to address technical barriers and product-process development to support rehabilitation initiatiatives of the government and private sectors,” added Engr. Kingking.
MSU System President Hon. Habib W. Macaayong expresses his gratitude and sees this opportunity to uplift the quality of life of Marawi City populace through Science, Technology, and Innovation.
“We highly welcome and support projects like this because we also help in the rehabilitation of Marawi City. As partners, our colleges are open to help DOST 12 in the implementation of these programs (STI Center),” said Dr. Macaayong.
Complementary assistance will be given to the existing Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) in the Campus. Other technology assistance that will be provided are the Food Innovation Center, Complementary Food Production, and the development of Dairy Farm processing facility and by-products.
Another highlight activity was the signing of ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ between DOST 12 and MSU Main Campus for the provision of DOST STARBOOKS to the University Library and college libraries in MSU.
The establishment of STI Center in MSU, Marawi City is part of the “DOST XII Support for Marawi City Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation thru Science and Technology Interventions and Innovation: Promoting of Healthy and Resilient Marawi City and Lanao del Sur” Project.
