DOST STARBOOKS Orientation and User’s Hands-on Training

The DOST V conducted STARBOOKS Orientation and User’s Hands-on Training through the Provincial Science and Technology Center – Albay led by Engr. Jacinto Alexis B. Elegado, SrSRS/ PSTD, PSTC-Albay | Ms. Catherine Comia, SRS II | Ms. Fae B. Banda, SRS II/ CEST Regional Coordinator and Mr. Anthony Andes, PA III/ STARBOOKS Technical Staff to two (2) STARBOOKS beneficiaries “Manuel Andaya Bustamante High School and San Miguel High School” under the Community Empower through Science and Technology (CEST) Program of the DOST, held at the Municipal Hall of LGU-Oas, Albay.

The Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) is a package of S&T interventions that aims to build progressive, empowered and resilient rural communities. The program continues its commitment to provide science-based development initiatives to the identified communities in Bicol Region. The S&T entry points aimed to empower and uplift the quality of lives in the communities that focuses on: 1. Health and Nutrition, 2. Human Resource and Development, 3. Economic Development/Livelihood Opportunities, 4. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Climate Change Adaption, 5. Environmental Protection and Preservation.

The Science and Technology Academic Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) is the First Science and Technology Digital Library in the Philippines, designed to bring S&T-based educational and learning resources in various formats to geographically-isolated schools and local government units throughout the country. STARBOOKS contains hundreds and thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text and video/audio).

STARBOOKS aims to:
1. Create interest in the field of Science and Technology which may increase the number of Filipino’s enrolling in S&T courses;
2. Encourage great and curious minds to develop new ideas-inventions and innovations; and
3. Inspires one’s capacity for entrepreneurship and research.
