The municipality of Castilla, Sorsogon, a Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) beneficiary has been extended with three (3) S&T interventions by the DOST through the simultaneous conduct of: (1) Launching, Orientation and Turn-Over of STARBOOKS, (2) Forum on the Establishment of Semi-Mechanized Smoke Fish Processing and (3) Forum on Noodles with Crabmeat Project on October 13, 2020.
Launching, Orientation and Turn-Over of STARBOOKS was led by the DOST-V STARBOOKS team through Pamela Macy V. Dreo, SRS II and Anthony B. Andes, PA III. The activity was attended by the principals, school ITs and LGU-Castilla personnel. Turn-over of the computers to the: (1) Burabod Elementary School and (2) Rosal Elementary School – the recipients was witnessed by Mayor Isagani B. Mendoza and Municipal Administrator Ian M. Llona. The activity was followed by the orientation and hands-on which was attended by eight (8) participants.
Simultaneously, the Forum on the Establishment of Semi-Mechanized Smoke Fish Processing was conducted which was participated by the LGU through: (1) Mayor Isagani B. Mendoza, (2) Ian M. Llona, Municipal Administrator (3) Marilyn M. Quiñones, Municipal Agriculturist and (4) MAO employees. On the part of the DOST, the Office was represented by: (1) Fae B. Banda, SRS II and CEST Coordinator, (2) Emmanuel Guim, PSTD, DOST-Sorsogon, (3) Engr. Ronald Barillo, SRS II, (4) Patricia Andes, PA II, and (5) Kristine Joy S. Orejo, PA I. The DOST’s approval of the P900k project was discussed during the forum. Counterpart sharing was tackled to identify the expenditure to be taken care by the DOST-V, LGU-Castilla and the beneficiary. Also discussed were the responsibilities of the stakeholders for the smooth implementation of the project.
The DOST-Sorsogon team proceeded to barangay Poblacion of the same municipality in the afternoon to conduct the Forum on Noodles with Crabmeat Project with the DSWD and Aksyon sa Poblacion SLP Association (APSLPA). The discussion focuses on the proposed tripartite participation of the stakeholders on the project that intends to introduce and produce the noodles fortified with crabmeat. Crabmeat is a semi-processed food product extracted from steamed blue swimming crab (alimasag) which is abundant in the municipality of Castilla. The forum was attended by 17 APSLPA officers and members. Assessment of the proposed noodles production area was conducted by the DOST-Sorsogon team after the forum which is currently undergoing repair through the fund provided by DSWD.
