Digital Library to roll out in 43 barangays in Batac City
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing between the Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOSTRO1) and DepEd Schools Division of the City of Batac was held today at the City Schools Division of Batac Office led by DOST Ilocos Norte OIC Mr. Gerald Q. Gabriel and City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Joel B. Lopez.
A total of 43 computer units donated by the City Government of Batac to DepEd Batac were installed with the Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk System (STARBOOKS) that will be rolled out to 43 barangays in the city. The units installed with STARBOOKS shall be used by the learners in their respective barangays. The community teachers assigned to every barangay shall assist the learners in accessing the resources.
STARBOOKS, or the Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk System, is a digital stand-alone information source designed to bring Science & Technology information and provide S&T-based educational and learning resources in various formats in the form of texts, video, and audio.
Dr. Joel Lopez, City Schools Division Superintendent of Batac City expressed his heartfelt gratitude to DOST in sharing the resource to DepEd and to the City Government of Batac for the computer units. He also added that STARBOOKS is not only helpful to learners but also to teachers and plans to install a computer unit installed with STARBOOKS in their office.
