DOST-1 & LGU Asingan forge partnership for STARBOOKS


The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-1) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) – Pangasinan Field Office forged partnership with LGU Asingan Hon. Mayor Carlos F. Lopez, Jr. through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the deployment of DOST’s Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) on April 8, 2022 at Municipal Conference Hall, Asingan, Pangasinan.

After the signing, the computer unit provided by LGU-Asingan was installed with DOST-STARBOOKS by Mr. Geamboy D. Morata, Project Assistant I of DOST-PSTC-Pangasinan. The partnership will continue as three (3) more computer units will be provided by LGU Asingan connected to the computer installed with STARBOOKS through a LAN Connection.

STARBOOKS is a stand-alone information source designed to reach those with limited or no access to S&T information resources which aims to provide Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI)-based content in various formats to students and other constituents in geographically isolated and economically challenged schools and communities throughout the country. It contains hundreds of thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text and video/audio) placed in specially designed “pods” set in a user-friendly interface.

Ms. Mary Ann Belen, STARBOOKS Regional Deployment Officer of DOST-1 conducted an orientation to promote the features, benefits & importance of STARBOOKS on how it will create a big impact especially to the learning of students. It was attended by the Department of Education (DepEd) Asingan District II Supervisor, Dr. Rosalina B. Saguiped, Sir Giovannie Catura, Admin Assistant and representative of Asingan District II Supervisor, as well as principals, and school representatives from Asingan.

Mr. Morata facilitated the User’s Training for the proper management, monitoring, and utilization of STARBOOKS, which was attended by the Municipal Librarian, Ms. Kima N. Sirot, and staff Mr. Gilbert D. Eclera.
