Additional units of STARBOOKS

Additional units of STARBOOKS (Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station), the digital library-in-a-box created by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-Philippines), will be adopted to selected schools nationwide thanks to a new agreement between the DOST and the Department of Education (DepEd).

DepEd Undersecretary Alain Del Bustamante Pascua visited the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII)’s office on February 14 for the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement. The MOA is for the pre-loading of STARBOOKS in ICT equipment under the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP). The DepEd Computerization Program aims to provide public schools with appropriate technologies that would enhance their teaching-learning process.

Also present during the MOA signing were Undersecretary for Scientific and Technical Services and DOST-PHIVOLCS OIC Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., DOST-STII Director Richard P. Burgos, and DepEd-ICTS Director Abram Y.C. Abanil.

“The MOA with DepEd is milestone for STARBOOKS! Under this agreement, DepEd will adopt this digital library-in-a-box as an alternative learning resource for use in public schools. The DOST-STII’s collection of S&T reference books, livelihood videos, and teaching guides for K-12 will be pre-loaded in all STAROOKS components and gadgets that DepEd will deploy to schools,” Director Burgos said.
