DOST XII empowers 34 new schools in North Cotabato with STARBOOKS

With the goal of empowering students who have little or no access to S&T information resources, the Department of Science and Technology Region XII, led by Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan, empowered learners by providing STARBOOKS in 34 elementary and secondary schools in North Cotabato.

The 34 new school beneficiaries participated and attended the STARBOOKS Orientation and User’s Training yesterday, April 19, 2022 with 75 participants at FCG Catering and Function Hall, Binoligan, Kidapawan City, North Cotabato. SDS Isagani S. Dela Cruz, CESO V, ASDS Mario M. Bermudez, CESO VI, CID-Chief Dr. Elpidio B. Daquipil and SES Lenie Forro of the Department of Education Cotabato Division, attended the training, which was spearheaded by Regional Director Sammy P. Malawan, represented by North Cotabato Provincial Director Michael T. Mayo and Mr. Benjie Francisco.

On his opening speech, DOST North Cotabato Provincial Director Michael T. Mayo emphasized the importance of equipping the students with knowledge. “It is important to give the youth of today the right equipment suitable in today’s fast paced and technology given era, STARBOOKS is here for everybody.” He spoke.

The STARBOOKS Orientation and User’s Training is part of a series of training to cater all schools in North Cotabato. STARBOOKS intends to bring STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation)-based curriculum to students and other constituencies in geographically distant and economically disadvantaged schools and communities across the country in a variety of media. Hundreds of thousands of digitized scientific and technology resources in a variety of media (text, video/audio) are housed in specifically designed “pods” with a user-friendly interface in STARBOOKS.
