The DOST Biliran PSTC with the DOST VIII MIS Unit successfully launched the STARBOOKS today at two schools in Biliran Province.
The schools who received the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk System or STARBOOKS are Bunga Elementary School in Cabucgayan and Union Integrated School in Caibiran. The STARBOOKS is the multi-awarded S&T library in a box developed by DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute.
The project is part of the continuous efforts of the DOST in promoting science, technology, and innovation in the countryside to increase awareness and appreciation of the people on the important role of STI in rural development. This as well is aimed at encouraging the students to pursue carreers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The team composed of Dr. Romeo L. Dignos, PSTD and Ms. Gracevillalyn Saldo, PA II of DOST Biliran, Engr. Florentino Queñones Jr, SRS II with Gary Lawrence Arica, PA II from DOST Region 8 MIS Unit conducted the turn over of one (1) STARBOOKS unit to each school and conducted hands-on demonstration on its use to the pupils and the teacher in charge in the operation of the system.
