Barcelona South District Schools gets Offline Information Source from DOST

The Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST V), in collaboration with the Provincial Science and Technology Office of Sorsogon (PSTO Sorsogon), successfully installed and handed over the five units installed with the Multi-Awarded Digital Library in the Philippines (STARBOOKS) developed by the DOST Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) at Macabari Elementary School, Barcelona South District in Macabari Barcelona, Sorsogon Province on 14 September 2022.

Among the schools installed with STARBOOKS were 1. π‘΄π’‚π’„π’‚π’ƒπ’‚π’“π’Š π‘¬π’π’†π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’‚π’“π’š 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍; 2. π‘ͺ𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝑭 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒐 π‘΅π’‚π’•π’Šπ’π’π’‚π’ π‘―π’Šπ’ˆπ’‰ 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍; 3. 𝑴𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒄 π‘¬π’π’†π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’‚π’“π’š 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍; 4. 𝑺𝒂𝒏 π‘Ήπ’‚π’Žπ’π’ π‘¬π’π’†π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’‚π’“π’š 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍; and 5. π‘³π’‚π’šπ’π’ˆ π‘¬π’π’†π’Žπ’†π’π’•π’‚π’“π’š 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍. School heads with the IT-in-charge undergo orientation and demonstration on the operation and utilization of STARBOOKS, followed by the MOU signing and turnover ceremony led by Engr. Sandro B. Noguera, Provincial S&T Director of DOST-PSTO Sorsogon.

Engr. Sandro B. Noguera expressed his gratitude to OIC-Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) Dr. Liza Dy-Salonga for showing interest in availing the STARBOOKS and to the school heads who participated in the activity. Engr. Noguera stated that the DOST gave the STARBOOKS to schools, LGUs, and private institutions for FREE.

Sorsogon Province has the highest number of STARBOOKS sites in the Bicol Region. PSTO Sorsogon is aiming for 100 STARBOOKS sites by the end of the year and planning to celebrate the 100th STARBOOKS sites in the province during the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW). Engr. Noguera hopes that the orientation and training will be very significant, especially for the schools’ progress, for the teachers, and of course, for the students. Engr. Noguera mentioned that STARBOOKS is one of the great projects of DOST implemented in the region. PSTO Sorsogon hopes to reach more schools, especially those in geographical-isolated areas.

Dr. Liza Dy-Salonga also expressed her gratitude to DOST Region V and PSTO Sorsogon for granting their request for the installation of STARBOOKS. “This will be utilized and aid our BRIGADA ESKWELA and BRIGADA PAGBASA Programs of Barcelona South District.” – Dr. Salonga said.
