Project ACAD reaches Conconig ES, 22 January 2022

With the continuous implementation of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), digital science libraries are installed in selected schools in the country.

Conconig Elementary School (CES) receives Accelerating Community Academics for Development Project (Project ACAD) grant from DOST Region I. This project aims to provide Science and Technology support to the insurgency affected communities in the Province of Ilocos Sur towards attaining quality education.

One of the components of the project is the provision of educational tools and equipment equipped with STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks). STARBOOKS contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text and video/audio) placed in specially designed “pods” set in a user-friendly interface.

The awarding of STARBOOKS at Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College Gymnasium, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, was attended by CES teachers Rhea S. Cortez, Jeane N. Espejo and Mary Ann A. Salmorin, December 10, 2021.

The participants were oriented on STARBOOKS and science and technology modules. The introduction of augmented reality tools for e-learning in the new normal was also conducted.

"We are thankful that this project reaches our school, a proof that despite the pandemic and previous insurgencies, DepEd is addressing the needs of the schools and communities like ours," Rhea S. Cortez, CES Science Coordinator said.

Mr. Joseph T. Eisma (Project Assistant II, Field Operations, DOST-Region I) and Mr. Raymond E. Alip (Project Assistant I, Provincial S & T Center - Ilocos Sur) conducted occular inspection and provided technical assistance, January 11.

"DOST is always one with DepEd in reaching rural, isolated and insurgency affected schools and communities. Distance is never a hindrance," Eisma relates.
