The Provincial Science and Technology Office of Davao del Sur (PSTO DS) received an award from the Department of Science and Technology – Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) for their successful deployment of the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) in the province. The award was given in recognition of PSTO Davao del Sur’s dedication and effort to install STARBOOKS to at least 30% of all public schools in the Province of Davao del Sur since it was launched in 2011.
PSTO Davao del Sur is one of the three provincial offices of DOST in the country to receive the said distinction. Director Richard P. Burgos of DOST-STII handed over the award to PSTO Davao del Sur representative Llyl Dave Z. Gimeda (Project Technical Aide V) during the 11th STARBOOKS Deployment Officers’ Assembly on April 19-21, 2023 at the Green Leaf Hotel, General Santos City.
STARBOOKS is the first digital library in the Philippines that is available both offline and online and was created by DOST-STII which is the agency’s lead institute mandated to establish a science and technology databank and library; disseminate science and technology information; and undertake training on science and technology information.
True to its mantra, DOST, through its regional and provincial offices, research and development institutes, scientific and technological service institutes, sectoral planning councils, and attached agencies, will continue to bring science closer to the people.
