Three units of computer sets with wifi router installed with DOST-STARBOOKS were formally deployed through the directives of DOST XII Regional Director Sammy P. Malawan last 6th of July, along with the team of Provincial Director Michael T. Mayo.
The three recipients of the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) are the barangays of Binay from the Municipality of Magpet, Brgy. Tumanding of Arakan and Brgy. Labuo of President Roxas all in the province of Cotabato.
It was made possible through the partnership of Provincial Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño Mendoza and was supported by the 2nd District Representative Congressman Rudy S. Caoagdan, Arakan Valley Complex (AVC) and the 72nd Infantry Batallion, Philippine Army who were also present during the ceremony.
STARBOOKS is known as the first Philippine digital science library that can be used without internet connection.
The Department aims to harmonize greater access to Science, Technology, and Innovation that are available in various formats like text, video and audio to students especially in geographically distant and economically-challenged areas like sitios across the country.
DOST-STARBOOKS is not only recommended for students and researchers but designed as well for inventors, entrepreneurs and all marginalized sectors seeking relevant information and knowledge such as in the fields of Agriculture, Architecture, Anthropology, Archeology, Education, Engineering, Geography, Industry and Statistics, Social Sciences, Technopreneurship and Livelihood Technologies, among others.
