BATAC CITY – A total of 73 teachers, school heads, and ICT coordinators from DepEd Batac City attended the Science and Technology Academic Research Based Openly Operated Kiosk System (STARBOOKS) Virtual Online and Offline Orientation last November 12, 2020.

Dr. Marilou Sales, Chief Education Supervisor from the Schools Division of City of Batac said that this collaboration between DOST and DepEd reinforces values, culture and opportunities that schools can provide for their students.

“The STARBOOKS encourages curious minds to develop new ideas and plays a vital role in providing Batacueno learners educational resources especially in this time of pandemic,” she added.

Mr. James Prepose, DOST 1 STARBOOKS Focal Person headed the orientation on the online and offline versions of STARBOOKS. He walked the teachers through the various features and content of the digital library as well as how to create and manage their accounts. He also demonstrated on how to use and navigate STARBOOK’s different information resources like Theses/Dissertations, S&T Videos and more. Mr. Prepose also introduced the online version of which can be accessed at https://starbooks.ph

In addition, forty-three (43) computer units donated by the City Government of Batac to DepEd Batac were installed with STARBOOKS and will be distributed to the 43 barangays in the city.

STARBOOKS is a great tool for the academic sector in terms of getting access to resource materials to aid in learning in the new normal. DOST 1 envisions the provisions of digital libraries as a great help especially in this time where there is a shift to a distant learning mode.
